About Me
I'm Laura Sipes. I was born and raised in good ol’ Iowa. I graduated with a Bachelors
in Fine Art at Central College in Iowa, and I enjoy continually expanding my art skills, learning new techniques as well as using the tried and true ones! I’ve been sewing
since I was 8 starting with the basics in hand sewing like cross stitch and then I evolved in my learning to make my first quilt (with much help from my mother, my teacher)
at the age of 10! I called it Kitty Angels, and it was a masterpiece worthy to be shown!
It is still one of my favorites and has a home in my bedroom.
As the years have flown by enjoying the art of quilting with my grandma, mom and sister, I started sharing my quilting. First just with friends, then I extended out and started making quilts for others!! Soon after I started moonlighting making quilts for people, my mom suggested us girls to get a longarm. I thought, “That would be incredible!!” but expected it to be years down the road. Little did I know that that incredible dream would come true within that year! My sister, Kate actually named Sunshine Quilting. She suggested it after she named her her two honey bee houses, Sunshine Hives, which is her local small business. Now, with my longarm, I offer custom machine quilting services near and far.
When I am not quilting, I enjoy playing on my dad’s massive “jungle gym” or making things like a handmade, wooden bed frame, or just enjoying family time. I also love helping host a Girls Night every Wednesday cooking dinner all together and having
a cup of tea. Just a fun way to fellowship and enjoy some fun company.
